THE HOLE

Officially named The Gerald Huberman Federal Correctional Facility, The Hole earned it's nick-name early on during it's initial construction back in 1969 when the old played out Kenshaw copper mine was purchased by the Federal government to be used as the site for a new paranormal prison.  Work went well and as early as 1972 it began housing it's first "super villains".  Ever since the base has seen it's fair share of headaches.  Bad luck, prison breaks, allegations of corruption, all of them have plagued the base and it's string of wardens.  Despite this The Hole is still considered The United States' most advanced paranormal detention facility.

The Hole consists of twelve levels, each one can be blocked off in the event of an attempted prison break or riot.  Each level contains it's own emergency power supply so that if the primary power source is damaged (said power source is still classified.  Rumors abound that it is the salvaged power core of a Styf battleship.) the cells can still be kept secure.  The most dangerous prisoners are kept in the lowest level, also known as the Hell Holes.  It is here that the most powerful and psychotic paranormals are incarcerated.

The Hole's prisoners are assigned various levels (also known as blocks) depending on their primary power set.  Each block has been given it's own nick-name:

Brick House: This level is devoted to incarcerating prisoners with super human strength.

Power Plant: paranormals with various energy projection powers are residents of this level.
Dojo: Men and women with extraordinary physical abilities that do not qualitfy them as "bricks" kept here.

Psyche Ward: Super humans with some form of mental power are kept on this level.  Sometimes certain inmates are kept on a strict regimen of drugs to curtail their mental abilities.

Haunted House: This level contains those with paranormal abilities.

There are sections of The Hole unknown to the general public, even unknow to a majority of the facility's employees and inmates.  One of these sections was discovered after The Hole's suffered a horrific seismic event and Deputy Director MacReady's body was found.  Investigations as to whom authorized this particular section have thusfar proven unfruitful.

The Hole has experienced at least two devastating jail breaks.  The first was during the Extra-Dimensional Invasion when the Tandians punched a hole through the center of the facility, allowing numerous inmates to escape and killing numerous personnel.  The second incident was during the aforementioned seismic event.  During the subsequent periods of reconstruction many criminals were incarcerated at MacLaren Isle.
