Appearance: Rain is a slight woman in her early twenties, standing just over five foot five, firm but not muscular. Her strength is considerably disproportionate to her size. Although she had maintained a bald head for all of her life she is now free of many of her old ways and has allowed her hair to grow in to be more ‘normal looking’. One of the students at PPP helped her grow it out faster than normal.

Personality: Rain is quiet, passive, and polite. Although she has gained great levels of enlightenment, she is not very well versed yet in modern culture and can seem very naïve. She takes her new role as an ambassador between her former temple and the superhuman society very seriously and hopes to form a bond between them to insure victory if her ‘Black Dragon’ should emerge. Whether the order actually means ‘Dragons’ as per mythology, or only uses the term for some other entity is unknown to any but themselves.

Powers: Rain is a martial artist of nearly unparallel skill, capable of competing with  super human opponents thanks to a life time of physical training, spiritual enlightenment, and secret techniques bestowed upon her order by the ‘Golden Dragon’. Although human by all tested standards Rain is capable of outperforming an Olympic level gymnast, shatter seemingly unbreakable (by human standards) substances such as stone and brick, and even denting and deforming heavy gauge metal plating. Years of meditation allow her to control her body’s automatic systems like a yogi, and she is well versed in almost all non-contemporary weapons. Through focus and will she can perform seemingly superhuman feats, but they are taxing both physically and spiritually.

Lifewhip: Rain’s Lifewhip is a twelve foot long white apparatus, which appears to be in nine 1” thick sections connected by slimmer pieces, but is actually tightly woven from the life strand she severed from a mystical spider’s ‘Great Web’. The weapon ends in a 20-ounce ‘sinker’ shaped weight of alien origin. Rain can use the Lifewhip as a striking weapon, to wrap up opponents, snare objects, swing, etc. Although the strand of web that it is made from was mystically bound to her, it no longer has any true spiritual connection to her, only sentimental. Aside from it’s apparent unbreakable strength it has no unique mystical properties. She uses the weapon with amazing skill and grace as if it were an extension of her own body. When not in use she merely wraps it around her waist.

Background: Rain was an instructor at Pure Power’s Plant until an attack by the former Avant Guard member Menton led to her falling under alien influence and cutting the superhuman Willhelm in combat, breaking one of her most hallowed vowes…

“And you have reached your decision, then?” Pure Power stood beside his friend, his testimony on her behalf was powerful, but he knew it would most likely do little to sway the judgment of the Sovereigns. That they allowed him to enter the temple proved how much regard they had for the man, but that respect would do little to change laws that had been set before most men on earth had forged a written language.

“The council has weighed your words. We understand that forces beyond our sister’s control forced her hand, and we are proud that the sight of the blood she had drawn gave her strength to remove herself from the conflict.” The old voice betrayed the ageless eyes of Brother Tao, his three associates stood looking down. Once the four Sovereigns had committed to a path there was no need for more than one to speak. “However, it is with no petty reason we abide by the rules that we do. Ours is the first temple, and when the Black Dragon rises to swallow the Earth, it shall be the last to stand before him. All of us have taken a vow, that in return for the guidance the Golden Dragon bestows upon us we shall not for our own lives let loose the blood of another. This has been the way for nearly four thousand years, this is the way of today. Our sister Rain must exile herself to the barrens where she shall walk alone and learn to make peace with the Golden Dragon before her life ends.”

It sounded harsh, cruel, but Pure Power could sense the apprehension in the old monk. He knew how the man had found the infant girl cradled in her frozen mother’s arms over two decades ago not far from their secreted mountain temple. How, as the man rushed with the nearly dead child to the safety and warmth of his home that the skies became uncharacteristically warm, and the snows changed to rain. The mother had died trying to bring her child to the Temple, and the Golden Dragon insured that the babe would become one of it’s disciples.

“Is this the fate of one you admit you believed chosen by the Golden Dragon?” Pure Power began, “this cannot be, and you MUST know that! She has traveled to the outside and resisted it’s temptations. You warned that she could not, but she proved you wrong. Her teachings have helped more men and women than I can explain, and she has been a great ambassador and source of enlightenment for yourselves also. The world has changed , Tao, more in the past few decades than in the past five hundred, and perhaps THIS was the Dragon’s plan for this girl. Perhaps it foresaw the need for an agent to bridge the gap between parahumans and itself. When the Black Dragon comes, perhaps it will use the world’s super powered as pawns, and you will need the likes of myself and those Rain has tutored in your battle against it. Have you considered this?”

The old one smiled, “Of course, but for her to assume such a role would still require her to sever her ties to us, and perform yet another task.”

“I know.” It was the first words Rain had uttered since she had arrived. “I must face Gaurewth, the Spider who’s web binds us all. Only by breaking my own strands free of the great web shall I be free of my vows. I am prepared.”

“But none have ever succeeded, child. And to perish in her realm is to perish from existence forever. You shall be but a faint memory to those who held you closest.” Tao knew the girl had made up her mind, knew she would do this thing no matter what was said, but spoke his peace just the same.

“You never said anything about this, Rain. I..I can come with y..”

“No, my friend.” Rain put a hand on the gentle man’s shoulder. “You have power beyond the scope of imagination, a soul worthy of the Golden Dragon himself, but this is not a task the likes of yourself are prepared for. I would risk my existence for this thing, but I would never allow yours such peril. I thank you, and you shall be with me.” Rain stood, pulled the cowl down from over her head, and bowed to the Sovereigns. Waiting would serve no purpose.

Months later Rain prepared for her flight to Motor City. She had remained at Pure Powers Plant while she recovered from her battle with Gaurewth, the facilities there second to none, plus she had plenty of time to weave the long strand of life web into something more useful to her in her new role in life. It served as a chainwhip, the weighted end provided by Pure Power himself, an octagonal cylinder with a rounded end he claimed was a spent fuel cell for some alien craft. It proved to be as unbreakable as her lifestrand, tested repeatedly on the likes of Ultima, PP, and any super strong student who thought they could best the substance.

Rain is currently works on the staff at Pure Power's Plant.
