BACKGROUND: Chuck was an employee working at Starbucks when a fight between two paranormals broke out just outside the cafe.  Curious, he got closer to see what was going on.

That was a big mistake.

The two paranormals fighting were mages, a spilloff from a fight between the Alvares and Budros clans.  Chuck was hit with a stray potion, it sent him flying back into one of the cappucino machines.  A weird effect happened with the extremely strong coffee mixed with the potion and seeped into his skin.  Before he knew it he was move at hypsonic velocities!

Then just as quickly the power faded away.

It took some experimenting but Chuck figured it out.  His power level and the length of time he was able to employ it was directly related to how much caffeine he had in his system.  Soon he became a caffeine junkie, living for the rush, the ability to move so fast everyone else seemed to be moving in slow motion.  He didn't realize the chemical imbalance that was going on in his system, how unstable it made him.

Eventually Chuck fell in with the wrong crowd, and he wound up being one of the villains involved in the '97 attack on London.  He, Texas Jack and Heavy Metal's Turbo Lover all attacked High Justice's Accelerator.  Unfortunately for them Accelerator had a pretty good working knowledge of London.  That, combined with his rage and resolve and the fact that the three villains were trying to upstage one another Accelerator was able to defeat all of them.

Today Chuck is a tenant of The Hole, and his diet is closely watched.

POWERS: Java is a speedster; he is able to run at mach speeds, strike an opponent a hundred times a second, and is highly resilient.  The only problem is he depends upon caffeine to keep his powers going.  The more he gets and the more concentrated the dose determines both his speed and the length of time he keeps the power.

PERSONALITY: Chuck is a mild mannered guy...until he gets a little caffeine into his system.  Then he's a thrillseeking lunatic bent on raising hell and having a "good time".  A "good time" usually consists of property damage and scaring "slowpokes".  All attempts at treating his condition have failed.

APPEARANCE: Chuck is a slim, handsome devil without an ounce of fat on him.  He shaves his head to cut down wind resistance.  As Java he wears a skin tight white body suit with rubber soled boots.
