Name:
Doctor Jonathan S. Sampson, PhD
HISTORY (KNOWN): Jonathan could have been
one of the greatest biochemists of modern time had it not been for his
alcoholism. The brilliant MIT graduate had earned two PhDs in
biochemistry
and physics by the age of 21, an amazing accomplishment. After
his
graduation the young man had returned to his father's company and had
grandiose
plans of research and development but when his father died in car
accident
Jonathan's life changed for the worse. He turned from science to the
bottle
and looked for solace where none should. For two years the once
accredited
Doctor ran the company his father had built into the ground. For
the second time in as many years his life would change dramatically
though.
One of Doctor Sampson's oldest friends from MIT had made it big as an
archeologist
and had uncovered and unusual find in the ancient Mediterranean
Sea.
On a small island that had sunk into the sea the remains of a small
outpost
had been found. The outpost was lavish and
held deep compartments full of
unbelievable
treasure but the room that was the most difficult to enter and covered
in an unusual amount of booby traps held only a single flask that still
contained liquid. His friend Erik Richburn wanted to keep the
find
a secret and wanted to find out what the liquid was. He knew what
Jonathan's life had become and hoped that perhaps a new focus would
help
his one time friend; Erik didn't know how right he was.
As Erik arrived in San Francisco
an ominous feeling began to encroach on the archeologist. He met
Jonathan at his lab and the two enjoyed a day filled with recounting
old
tales and girlfriends. As night fell and Jonathan wanted to head
to a bar Erik began to feel the same ominous feeling and instead begged
Jonathan to begin looking at the liquid. Begrudgingly Jonathan
did
as he was asked. What he found astounded him. The chemical
compounds were organic in nature but were more complex then any
engineered
compound he had ever seen. For over a week Jonathan studied the
liquid
to no avail.
Seven full days after beginning
his research Jonathan headed out to Erik's hotel to meet his friend and
share what he had uncovered to that point. When Jonathan arrived he
found
the hotel in a fury of excitement. Police crews and ambulances
were
just arriving at the scene and unsure what had happened Jonathan ran to
check on his old friend. The caved in walls and shattered remains
of Erik told Jonathan exactly what he didn't want to know: his friend
had
been brutally slain.
Without talking to police Jonathan
raced back to his lab and promptly pulled out the vodka that he kept
stashed
there. In a near delirious
state he drank every drop of alcohol he
kept there gone. Unconsciously desiring to end his own life
in alcoholic bliss he reached for the flask that he had come to believe
was some kind of poison. He drank deeply the fiery liquid pouring
down his throat in waves. Immediately the young scientist dropped
to his knees the flask skittering across the floor. He never even
heard the wall cave in as the being entered his lab.
The shouts of, "You fool," fell
on deaf ears as his body began to shake in convulsions. As
darkness
began to crowd in on his vision Jonathan
smile in joy believing his life was
over.
The last thing he saw was his lab crumbling in as the being went mad in
anger destroying all in its sight.
Later he awoke in a hospital bed
with the shocked faces of numerous doctors standing around him.
No
heart monitors or saline solutions were
connected to him. No bandages
covered
wounds. There were no wounds to cover. As he spoke to the
doctors
around him the picture began to unfold and Jonathan began to realize
that
whatever he had drank had transformed him. Apparently they had
been
unable to pierce his skin with any needles and no heartbeat could be
detected
coming from his chest. The only indication that he was alive was
the rise and fall of his chest.
Jonathan requested his clothes and
despite the requests of his doctors he returned home. He
immediately
reached for the nearest bottle of booze he could find. Within
minutes
he had downed the contents and grabbed more. One after another he drank
bottles of alcohol but with no affect. In anger he punched one of
the decorative pillars that ran from floor to ceiling in his living
room.
The concrete shattered under his fist. He paused staring at his
fist.
Finally Jonathan realized that he could no longer drink. His body
had been forever changed and he was now stronger, seemingly
invulnerable,
and immune to toxins. He had to decide what to do with his life .
A founding member of
The Vindicators, Havok became a leader of the elementals and had gotten
very
much in touch with his mystical side. Sadly he had been mind
controlled by a super villain and had slain an innocent human being
while on the Starscraper. He was there awaiting the legalities of
his situation to play out when it was blown up by Lord Dread.
APPEARANCE: Jonathan was an impressive 6'4" and 276lbs, all muscle. He kept his reddish brown hair parted down the middle and his eyes were emerald green. His handsome face gave the impression of power and authority. Jonathan preferred casual clothes and khaki's or jeans but occasionally wore a suit when the occasion called for it.
PERSONALITY: Jonathan had allowed himself to get mired in depression for a long time. His transformation had also had immense effects on his personality. Since he has been forced to leave behind the bottle young Dr. Sampson had become more focused and driven. He had begun to turn around his ailing company and his own personal life. His unusual story has also caused him to appear on a couple of local T.V. stations giving him a small amount of glamour, which he used to his full advantage. Still having a slightly addictive personality the now very handsome Dr. Sampson had a slight problem with womanizing but his newfound happiness is like a God send to those that know him. Jonathan was very happy as the leader of the elementals and he found it gave his life a higher purpose, even beyond that of an executive or super hero.
POWERS: Jonathan was the classic brick,
in fact he was one of the most powerful physical beings on the
planet.
He possessed super-human strength, endurance, and an incredibly
resistance
to damage (although sufficient shock to his system could render him
unconscious).
What he slowly came to realize is that he was practically immortal;
he did not need to eat or breath, was highly resistant to radiation,
temperature extremes, pressure variances, toxins, disease, etc,
and
he only needed to sleep for psychological reasons. He could
easily
survive in space for extended periods of time with no ill effects.
Despite the changes to his body Jonathan had lost none of his natural agility or mobility.
SKILLS: Dr. Sampson was one of the world's foremost bio-chemists, possessing a quick and innovative mind. Sampson was also a competent business man and an able administrator. He was also very charismatic, as many ladies can attest.
Havok had taken combat training from Platinum Blonde, a former super villain. She had taught him the basics of hand-to-hand combat as well as how to best employ his tremendous strength and durability in combat.
WEAKNESSES: Despite his training with a
woman Havok still tried to avoid combat with "the fairer sex", and
would have to be
severely pushed before he would use abilities on one.
Additionally
his physiology was partially based on Silicon and would have a weakness
to any villain that had control over materials like silicon.
While
he was immune to certain magicks such as the necromatic school, he was
still
vulnerable to others. Havok was still quite vulnerable to mental
attacks.
